Nintendo Wii Controllers
One of the distinguising things about the Nintendo Wii
console is the innovative controllers that it supports.
Going beyond simple joysticks and buttons, the Wii controllers
can also sense motions and speed, allowing you to use
almost "real world" movements to play games making for a more
active and realistic experience.
The moment that my son and I knew we wanted one of the Wii
consoles was when we found out that Lego Star Wars
would be coming out for the Wii. Can you imagine, using
the Wii controller like a light saber and controlling your
on-screen character? How cool is that? :-) The
thoughts of our mock Star Wars universe battles moving from the
couch-potato-y Playstation controller to something more
life-like sealed the deal.
There are two controllers that work together (one in each
hand) that you'll want to get for your Wii, with a pair for
each person playing. They are the Wii Remote and the Wii Nunchuck
Controller. Most games will use either the Wii remote
or both the Wii Remote and the Nunchuck controllers
together. These are advanced motion-sensing
controllers.
For playing older games, there is also a Wii Classic Controller that
resembles the joystick/button combo controller familiar to
people who've played the Nintendo GameCube and older Nintendo
consoles.
For keeping your wireless Wii controllers all charged up and
ready to use, a docking
charging station is good to have.
